10 Easy Ways to Trick Yourself into Drinking More Water [And Love it!]

Do you struggle to stay hydrated? You’re not alone.

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. That’s a huge problem. When you don’t drink enough, there are a myriad of consequences including:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle soreness
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Cramps
  • Headaches
  • Cravings
  • Irritability
  • And more

And chronic dehydration can lead to even more serious issues including autoimmune disorders, hypertension, and adult-onset diabetes.

The issue is that while many Americans drink eight glasses of water a day, it’s actually not enough. Once you add in caffeinated beverages and alcohol, which are diuretics—dehydrating drinks—you need more water than you think.

In fact, men should drink about three liters—13 cups—a day while women should drink about 2.2 liters—9 cups—a day. That’s a ton of water!

Unfortunately, many of us don’t enjoy drinking water. We think of it as a chore, and completing our chores is not something we enjoy doing. So, how can you trick yourself into drinking more water and loving it at the same time?

We’ve collected a few, simple ideas for drinking more water that won’t break your budget or disrupt your routine.

  1. Make It Routine

We all have daily routines. We have a routine when we wake up and when we go to bed. Make drinking water a part of that routine.

If you always brush your teeth when you wake up and before bed, why can’t you also add in drinking a glass of water before or after brushing your teeth? It’s an easy way to add at least two glasses of water to your day.

The key to making it routine is to drink at the same exact time every single day. This way you won’t accidentally forget when you’re supposed to drink water. Also, make sure your water is visible and unavoidable.

Before heading to bed, fill up one of our 13oz Renegade Tumbler’s with water and put it in your bathroom. Then, make sure you drink it before you leave the bath for bed. Fill it up again before you sleep, so it’s ready in the morning. Easy!

  1. Carry Water with You Everywhere

Often, the reason why we don’t drink enough water is because we don’t have water handy when we’re thirsty. How often have you been at the store and thought, “Man, I’m thirsty,” but because you didn’t have any water on hand, you just ignored the issue?

We’ve all been there, but it’s an easy fix. Our 20oz Ranger Glass is the perfect, on-the-go water resource that you need. Its high-quality materials will help keep your water fresh and cool throughout the day. Also, the more you like your water bottle, the more you’re likely to drink!

Plus, the glass bottle lets you see how much you still have to drink. This is especially helpful for setting yourself drinking goals. Simply use a marker or tape to mark out water consumption goals by certain times each day. This way you can see how much you should be drinking and make it a game with yourself.

  1. Add Flavor

If you hate drinking water because it tastes so plain, change it up. It’s so easy to add natural flavor to your water.

Make your water “spa water” by adding slices of fruit or herbs to your water bottle. Not only does this make your water taste great, but it also makes it look delicious. Imagine your 18oz Wai Bamboo Loop Window Grip bottle floating with pieces of strawberry and mint?

A few delicious flavors to try include mint, lemon, watermelon, raspberries, thyme, and cucumber. We recommend mixing and matching flavors for more excitement, too.

  1. Add Bubbles

If you love soda but need more water, then try adding carbonation to your water. There are many different affordable carbonation systems out there that transform any water into bubbly water. Or, you can simply purchase and drink mineral waters. There are even some out there that come with natural, enhanced flavors for more deliciousness.

  1. Make it an Appetizer

Did you know that the more water you drink, the less hungry you’ll be? If you’re trying to eat less, then adding a glass of water before every meal could be your secret to success.

Oftentimes, we can confuse hunger with thirst. But, if you drink a full glass of water before your meal, you won’t have that trouble. Think of it as an awesome slimming tactic that doesn’t require an hour at the gym.

And make that glass of water easier to drink with our 20oz Glass Laser Etch. It’s a fashionable way to look and feel great.

  1. Play a Drinking Game

How do you drink a ton of alcohol? You play a drinking game. You can use that same principle when it comes to water. Grab a co-worker or a close friend and make drinking water a game.

Does your boss always use a certain phrase? Take a drink whenever he says, “Make it so.” Watching your favorite TV show? Take a swig of water every time your favorite character performs a common action.

Whatever the rules, it doesn’t matter. The key is to keep you hydrated and to make drinking fun!
